My Nail Care Regimen

How to Keep Hard Long Nails

Decided I'd share why my nails look so great! :) Someone asked me yesterday were they real. I haven't gotten acrylic since July and often miss it. But with my new found regimen, I've been loving it without it.

In a previous post, I raved about Nutra Nail - Green Tea Nail Strengthener. I'm still using it and it's doing it's job. My nails are hard and never break! The only thing I'm having trouble with are hang nails. :(

My Nail Care Regimen:

File nails to desired length
One (1) coat of Nutra Nail - Green Tea Nail Strengthener
Two (2) coats of China Glaze - Strong Adhesion Base Coat
Two (2) coats of your desired nail color
Three (3) coats of Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat

I was on Luuux.com asking bloggers for a top coat because my nail color would always chip by the third day from painting them. They recommended Seche Vite and it has been a life saver! It's pretty expensive but it's something I can no longer live without.

OPI Nail Lacquer - "Yodel Me On My Cell" - Swiss Collection

I really recommend these products and this regimen. Try it out and let me know how it worked for you!

Boston Fashion Week 2010: Rising Design Fashion Show at Mobius

Designs from Margaret Lawrence and June Monteiro

My first runway show ever! What a classy event! LaDean and I finally got a chance to experience the fashion fix that we had been yearning for. We arrived at Mobius, greeted by two fashionable women that allowed us to sit front row, which we were excited about. The venue had glass windows from wall to wall, which made the space feel much bigger than it actually was.

As everyone quieted down for the show to begin, the host Kate Tirone, a member of Rising Design, welcomed us to the event that local designers had been waiting for.

The two designers that caught my eye instantly were Margaret Lawrence and June Monteiro. Their designs were fresh and something LaDean and I would love to have in our wardrobes.

Margaret Lawrence's collection "Plum Poseys" displayed elegant evening wear with floral fabric that accented the dresses. There were shades of purple and different silhouettes throughout the entire collection. Her collection was feminine and light. Recently completing her Fashion Design Program at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, she also loves costume, bridal, millinery (hat-making/head pieces) design as well.

Here's her take on the fashion industry:

B: Margaret, what inspired you to begin creating clothing designs?
ML: I've been interested in clothing and costume ever since I can remember. When I was young, my cousin was going to fashion design school and she would always show me what she was working on. I learned from a very young age that it was possible to create the beautiful things that I was so fascinated by. I've never wanted to do anything else.

B: Who are some of your favorite designers?
ML: I appreciate many different designers for their own aesthetics, but I personally like extravagant design and girly glamour, particularly Vivienne Westwood for her eccentric twists, and Marchesa which is feminine and romantic.

B. What matters to you most as a fashion designer?
ML: As a fashion consumer, I know that a lot of the joy comes from feeling confident in what you are wearing. So as a designer, it is important that someone feels good in one of my designs. As an artist, which I think designers are, I also want to have the satisfaction of feeling proud of my work.

B: I love accessories! What is your favorite accessory?
ML: I'm pretty simplistic when it comes to accessories, so I usually wear one statement piece at a time. Right now, I love my Kendra Scott turquoise earrings.

June Monteiro's collection "Monarch" was inspired by clothes worn by Queen Victoria for the mourning of her husband, Albert. June's designs reflected the different stages of mourning as they did in those Queen Victoria days. The designs reflected dark colors and sheer fabrics. They were futuristic and distinct. June owns her own business called ENAMOUR, which focuses on designs that convert from day to evening wear solely made with sustainable textiles.

Here's her view on the fashion industry:

B: So what inspired you to began creating clothing designs?
JM: I became interested in fashion at 19 while attending Art School in Baltimore, MA. It was there that I explored fabric manipulation, and liked it so much I incorporated it into my art. When I particpated in my first runway show, I felt such pride in seeing my work in motion, but I also experienced the joy of knowing others accepted, admired, and wanted to wear my designs. It was then I knew I wanted to be a designer.

B: Who are some of your favorite designers?
JM: I am in awe of many designers but I had to pick a few stand outs I would say: Marc Jacobs for his work ethic. Yves St. Laurent for beinga pioneer of so much of what we now know as the "fashion designer". Carolina Herrera for her timeless dresses. Nigo, owner of BAPE, for creating a lifestyle brand so successful that it incorporates clothing, accessories, restaurants, an airplance, and even a hotel. His story is one that I admire.

B: What matters to you most as a fashion designer?
JM: As a designer, quality and comfort is important to me. I want anyone wearing my designs to appreciate the excellent materials they are made of both in appearance and feel. I also want any woman in my designs to be comfortable as well. I believe we are all at our best when we are wearing an outfit tha tlooks great but is comfortable too.

B: Accessories are my favorite! What is your favorite accessory?
JM: I have 2 favorite accessores -- bags and earrings! I dont think anyone can have too many bags! Although lately I have been liking bigger totes. When it comes to earrings, I like big, dangly earrings. I buy them cheap because if I want to take them apart and combine them into a new design, it's easy to do so.
