Featured: InStyle Special Issue 2012

Yes! I was featured in this year's issue of InStyle Makeover 2012. I first got the news while on FB when a friend tagged me in a picture she took with her cellphone from the page. I searched high and low for this issue but didn't seem to find it until it hit stands in mid-Sept.

I'm always searching for inspiration in magazines and how I can extend my wardrobe. I hate red (as you already know) and I was terrified of these white pants (you should already know why too) but I was determined to think outside of my box!

Houston Fine Art Fair

Art is always an inspiration to me. I've always been the one to make trips to local art fairs and museums. I love seeing peoples perspective on their creative thoughts and how they interpret their art work.
I was elated when I received a free pass to attend the Houston Fine Art Fair. When we first walked in, I could hear the crowds' emotion of the art work and inquisitive facial expressions on how the artists portrayed their vision. So many wonderful artists! I took a couple of photos of my favorites.

I really enjoyed the last photo. The backdrop was made of thread spool of different colors. I was amazed at how creative this was! This piece of art would be a clothing designers dream!

Top 10 Beauty Picks

Hey guys! How's your Monday going so far? Ultimately mine has been good, but I'm so freaking tired! I seriously need to stop acting like I'm a 18 years old again and start going to be at a reasonable time. Any who, last week Houston Tidbits hosted a beauty event at Neiman Marcus where they highlighted a few Houston bloggers to share their top 10 beauty picks. Neiman's served cocktails and light bites and gave samples, testers, and demonstrations to all of the guests. It was a major turn out!

Henri Bendel's Blogging Event

Last month I was invited for sips, sweets, and swag at the Henri Bendel Houston Fashion Bloggers Evening with Galleria Style Setter, Lynne Gabriel. Every time I step foot in that store, I'm in heaven. The jewelry, scarves, bags, and other fun details in that store always has me swooning. Had fun networking catching up with some Houston fashionistas!

Here's a few snapshots of the night:

Style Confusion

Since I'm not in NY right now, I've been watching live fashion shows online for Fashion Week. So far it has been amazing. Seeing all the bright hues and lovely colors has already inspired me for Spring. I'M SO CONFUSED! One minute I want Spring, and the next I want Fall!
I'm so ready to wear my blazers as well. I've been told that in late October is when I would possibly be able to wear one. Looks like I'm going to just forget about what's appropriate for right now and just dress for the weather!

Shirt: Macy's | Trousers: Zara (old)(I want these so bad!) | Shoes: Target | Watch: Guess (Got my eye on this one.) | Bracelets: c/o Madison Boutique, c/o Versona Accessories, and H&M | Nails: Zoya

I've been swooning over Rebecca Minkoff's vision of floral for next Spring and the Alexander Wang's looks that focused on all the basic colors: black, white, and grey. Can't wait for the last few shows!

Embellish: Anjolee, The Art of Jewelry

I must admit, I wish I could get married again. Not because I wasn't satisfied the first time, but I loved the whole experience. Picking my dress, picking my shoes, and of course the most important part was picking the accessories. My husband is actually very good a picking jewelry and he has an eye for what I like which is a plus. But Anjolee makes picking the right stone, the right style, and the right price to make a bride feel like it was made just for her.
Anjolee definitely holds up to it's name as being a company that customizes your jewelry piece for you. The art of handcrafting a ring, bracelet, or earrings is all in your hands with the help of 35 year old company that has been featured in many retail stores across the country. Being able to purchase right from the manufacturer is always a plus for any customer. I had the pleasure of interviewing one of the designers from Anjolee and tapping into what it takes to make a customer's customizable piece.

*Introduce yourself - Name, Origin, Education, Length of time as a jewelry designer.
My name is Mila, I am originally from Los Angeles, CA. and have been living in Northern San Diego for over 12 years. I received a degree in architecture from San Diego State University in 2004. I ended up switching gears and interests and decided to enroll in a full year of jewelry courses at the GIA  (Gemological Institute of America) up in Carlsbad. I have been working full-time as a 3D jewelry and CAD designer for the last 5 years.

*What inspires you to working in this industry?
My passions revolve around creating unique and cutting edge jewelry designs.

*How long does it usually take you to construct a piece? What is your jewelry making process?*What is your typical day like creating Anjolee pieces?
It usually takes me 4-6 hours to brainstorm ideas about a design concept. Sometimes I start with a sketch and draw by hand while looking for inspiration. I am still intrigued by the strict rules observed in architecture but also the softness found in nature. When I begin to think about a concept, I try and visualize the end result and decide in advance if it will be an attractive jewelry piece when it is finished.

*What is the biggest perk of being a jewelry designer for Anjolee?
My fulfillment comes from being able to do something creative for work, and also draws largely from seeing an idea that originated in my mind become an item that sells well on our website. I am especially proud when it  become a top rated design (by customers).

*Do you have big plans, new ideas or designs you will be exploring soon?
At this time, a team of us are focusing on a brand new line of wedding rings called the ‘Luxe Collection’ to be offered on Anjolee.com later this year. I am currently setting up files for a darling ring that has a princess cut center diamond, accented by a combination of round and marquise shaped diamonds.

*What accessory do you mostly NEVER leave the house wearing?
I don’t leave the house without my wedding ring, and usually choose something simple to accessorize like a pair of studs or a precious pendant necklace that was given to me from my Aunt.

*Thanks Mila!

After conversing with this company, I felt like this company allowed the customer to create their own special piece. To be different and to set yourself apart from others. That's what style embodies. Let Anjolee help you create what's best for you!

FNO Houston Wrap-Up Pt. 2

West Ave. River Oaks, Tootsies, and CultureMap had a FNO block party with all of their boutiques to highlight their take on what's coming for Fall. The boutiques include menswear, bridal, and casual looks that were you could purchase right in the stores. It was such a wonderful fashion show and the models rocked every piece flawlessly.
Here are some of my favorite looks that came down the runway.
